Mistrial Declared on Hate Killing Charge

Jurors in Pueblo, Colo., deadlocked on the most serious charge against an avowed white supremacist who police said killed a West African immigrant at a bus stop because the man was black. Judge Jeffrey Bayless declared a mistrial after jurors told him they could not agree on whether Nathan Thill, 21, was guilty of first- or second-degree murder in the slaying of Oumar Dia. A new trial was tentatively set for February. Bayless did accept verdicts on three lesser charges. Jurors found Thill guilty of attempted murder, assault and ethnic intimidation.
