The Police Department donated equipment to a 15-person police staff in Chapultepec, Mexico, a small town 10 miles south of Ensenada. On Tuesday, the City Council approved donating 23 sets of rain gear, uniform pants, shirts and jackets, about 50 batons, four ballistic vests, 32 trousers belts, nine cuff cases and 13 sets of handcuffs.
Donation efforts were suggested to the department after Sgt. Joe Klein visited the city and found out that police officers there were forced to purchase their own uniforms and safety gear because of poor economic conditions.
