Fullerton Starts Fast, Tops Victor Valley

Fullerton took a 22-point lead at halftime before cruising past Victor Valley, 87-55, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday at Fullerton College.
Shelton Wise scored 17 points and Todd Jones and Chris Smith each added 14 points for the Hornets (7-4), who won their fourth consecutive game.
Victor Valley (0-10) made only four of 19 three-point shots and shot 39% (21 of 54) from the field.
In the first round of the Riverside tournament:
Cerro Coso 77, Irvine Valley 70--Enver Soobzokov scored 18 points, including four three-pointers, for Irvine Valley (5-3), which shot 30% from the field in the first half. James Floyd scored 17 points for Cerro Coso (2-7).
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Pasadena 76, Fullerton 68--Valerie Matweef made nine of 12 from the field and scored 25 points for Fullerton (6-4). Katy Barstow added 15 points for the Hornets.
Pasadena (8-2) was led by Tyrea Smith with 23 points.
Saddleback 51, Grossmont 49--Betsy Holman had 18 points and eight rebounds and Erin Edmiston had 16 points for host Saddleback (2-7).
