Re “Gallegly Kicks Off Campaign for 8th Term,” Nov. 29.
It should surprise no one that Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) would not turn down a chance to continue in his present position, especially since his party’s control of Congress allows him to pork-barrel in the same manner for which he used to condemn the Democrats when they were in control.
And by dredging up a rift between Gallegly and a handful of farmers who place profits above human rights or the fact that the Chinese peddled for influence in American elections, it’s equally obvious that the writers of this article were attempting to create a story where one did not exist. Still, there is no excuse for the lack of respect The Times extended to a hurdle Gallegly must clear before any Elton Gallegly versus Michael Case campaign becomes final.
Gallegly has another challenger but all The Times had to say about her was that she is a former Playboy Playmate. By other accounts, Patricia McClain is a legal assistant and a mother who has shown an interest in trying to make our world a little bit better.
Entering into a race against someone with the instant name recognition of Rep. Gallegly is but one measure of Patricia McClain’s sincerity. To be dismissed by The Times as no more than a bimbo who once bared her breasts is a disgrace. The Times owes Ms. McClain a tremendous apology.
