Apartment Building Fires Leave Residents Homeless

Two apartment fires in the San Fernando Valley over the holiday weekend left residents homeless but unharmed, authorities said.
On Christmas, a 4:40 a.m. fire at a two-story apartment building in Reseda damaged one unit.
Firefighters put out the blaze at 5725 Reseda Blvd. in about 15 minutes, said Bob Collis, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.
About 9:15 p.m. Christmas Eve, a fire started in the carport of a three-story Encino building at 5315 Zelzah Ave.
Sixty firefighters extinguished the blaze in half an hour, but it caused about $450,000 in damage to seven cars and two apartments, authorities said.
The causes of the fires were under investigation.
