Easter Tidings

When Bill Papich visited Easter Island (“A Heady Adventure,” Oct. 24), he learned little of what it has to tell us today. I visited last year with the National Audubon Society and learned that these were a people who, in time, destroyed themselves and their habitat. There are now four kinds of birds on the island, imported from Chile and elsewhere, and no native plants. Easter Island should be a lesson in what not to do. It is an isolated island, but so is our planet.
