The county’s top 10 teams are scattered around the country this week, but there will be plenty to watch right here at home.
Top-ranked Mater Dei begins play today in the tournament at Del Mar Torrey Pines High. The Monarchs are joined by No. 2 Ocean View, No. 5 Villa Park, No. 7 San Clemente and Capistrano Valley.
Third-ranked Troy and Servite open play today at the Marin Catholic tournament in North Carolina, and No. 9 Newport Harbor opens the Carson City (Nev.) tournament today.
Locally, sixth-ranked Santa Margarita meets Fountain Valley tonight at 8:30 in the Orange Holiday Classic at Chapman University. Eighth-ranked Marina opens pool play today at 2:30 p.m. against San Diego Hoover in the Estancia Tournament. Tenth-ranked Brea Olinda continues action this week in its own tournament, which began last Thursday.
Canyon, Century, Katella and Orangewood Academy also host tournaments this week.
