Jean Wudke, a news feature editor at The Times for 25 years, has died at the age of 77.
She died Sunday at Los Alamitos Medical Center after a virus condition caused cardiac arrest.
A native of Glendale, Wudke worked for the Montrose Leader before joining The Times in 1967. She was a copy and layout editor in the Food section and in the forerunner of what is now Southern California Living. She won particular recognition for writing clever headlines for the columns of the late Jack Smith.
Wudke retired in 1992 as executive news editor of the Sunday Book Review section.
She is survived by a son, Donald Jr.; two daughters, Barbara Jean Clark and Terry Jane Baugh; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale.
