BOISE STATE (9-3) vs. LOUISVILLE (7-4)
* When: Noon.
* Television: ESPN2.
* Update: Boise State, which moved up from Division I-AA in 1997, is playing in its first bowl game. Quarterback Bart Hendricks has passed for 2,740 yards and 22 touchdowns, and also run for eight touchdowns. The defense faces a tall order in trying to slow quarterback Chris Redman, who is expected to be a top NFL draft pick, and the high-octane Louisville offense. Redman’s No. 1 target is wide receiver Arnold Jackson, who has caught 101 passes for 1,209 yards and nine touchdowns. Running back Frank Moreau has rushed for 1,289 yards and 17 touchdowns.

VIRGINIA (7-4) vs. ILLINOIS (7-4)
* When: 4 p.m.

* Update: Virginia is led by All-American Thomas Jones, who has rushed for 1,798 yards and 17 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Dan Ellis passes for 10 touchdowns over the last two games after returning from injury. Illinois, 0-11 two years ago and 3-8 last year, won at Michigan and Ohio State, a rare feat. Sophomore quarterback Kurt Kittner passed for 22 touchdowns, with only four interceptions.

NO. 15 MISSISSIPPI STATE (9-2) vs. CLEMSON (6-5)
* When: 4:30 p.m.
* Television: ESPN.
* Update: Mississippi State, which won its first eight games, gave up only 222.5 yards a game to lead the nation in total defense. The limited offense struggled in losses to Alabama and Arkansas. Clemson, 3-8 last season, suffered losses to No. 1 Florida State, No. 2 Virginia Tech and No. 11 Marshall--the only unbeaten teams in Division I-A. The pass-happy spread offense can be explosive, but oft-injured quarterback Brandon Streeter could be vulnerable against a fierce Mississippi State pass rush.
