Kevin Novak
Mater Dei, Soccer
Novak helped the Monarchs win the Del Mar Torrey Pines tournament last week, tallying four goals and three assists in the tournament. He scored twice in a 4-1 victory over Poway in the quarterfinals and once in a 2-1 victory over Capistrano Valley in the final. “He’s not our leading scorer,” Mater Dei Coach Martin Stringer said. “But he scored the key goals for us last week.”

Tournament MVP helped Magnolia finish second at Mojave (Ariz.) tournament last week.

Won 119-pound division to help the Spartans win the El Modena Mann tournament championship.
Giuliana Mendiola
El Toro, Basketball
Mendiola became the county’s all-time leading scorer last week, scoring 75 points in two games to help the Chargers win the San Clemente tournament championship. Needing 40 points in the final to tie the record, Mendiola scored 17 of her 42 points in the fourth quarter, including three free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal a 64-61 victory over Foothill.

Earned MVP honors helping the Royals win the Lakewood Artesia tournament championship.

Mission Viejo, Soccer
Scored the goal in a 1-0 victory over Laguna Hills in the Ocean View tournament championship game.
