Suspect Fatally Shot, Officer Wounded

A Los Angeles police officer was wounded and a suspect in a disturbance was killed in a shooting at a San Fernando Valley apartment complex Thursday night, authorities said.
The officer, who was not identified, was responding to a call at 9:15 p.m. when she was shot in the shoulder, authorities said. She was taken to County-USC Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available.
One unidentified person was shot and killed in the incident in the vicinity of the Studio Colony Apartments on Bluffside Drive in North Hollywood. Another person who may have been involved in the incident apparently escaped, police said.
No other details were available.
A year ago, LAPD Officer Steven Gajda, 29, was mortally wounded in a shooting on New Year’s Eve. He had been assigned to watch for revelers firing guns into the air. He died the next day.
