San Pedro 49, Birmingham 45--Octavia Askew had 10 of her 17 points in the first quarter and Juana Gatson scored eight of her 14 points in the second but the Patriots couldn’t hold a lead and fell in the championship game of Canoga Park tournament for the second consecutive year.
Birmingham (7-4) led, 28-21, at halftime, and had a 36-35 edge going into the fourth quarter, but San Pedro (10-5) rallied behind Tiffany McCollum, who had 26 points, including 16 in the second half.
The Patriots lost to El Camino Real in the final last year.
