Disneyland Adds $1 to Admission Fees

Despite two years of declining attendance, Disneyland has added a dollar to the price of a one-day admission. The theme park raised its adult admission price to $39; the fee for children is $29 and for senior citizens $37. The increases compensate for higher operating costs and new entertainment, said Lynn Holt, a Walt Disney Co. spokesman in Anaheim. Disneyland prices are up 18% from 1995, when a regular adult admission was $33. Not since 1991 has the park gone a year without a price increase. At Universal Studios Hollywood in Universal City, spokesman Eliot Sekuler said the price remains at $38 for adults, $28 for children and $33 for seniors. He said price hikes will be considered later. Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, where admission is $36 for adults and $26 for children and seniors, said it has no plans to raise prices. Last month the trade publication Amusement Business estimated Disneyland attendance at 13.7 million last year, down 4% from 1997 and about 9% below 1996.
