Dunkin’ Donuts Seeks to Oust Store With Mice Problem

NEW YORK — Dunkin’ Donuts is trying to end its affiliation with a midtown Manhattan franchise where mice were photographed nibbling on doughnuts.
The Randolph, Mass.-based company, which has more than 4,400 shops worldwide, said in a lawsuit filed Monday that the store breached its contract when it permitted mice inside.
Last week, the New York Post published a photograph of a mouse resting on a glazed doughnut while munching a coconut-covered one.
Dunkin’ Donuts said it sent the franchise operator, National Donut Restaurants of New York Inc., a termination notice Friday.
Dunkin’ Donuts was inspecting all 30 of its New York City franchises operated by Riese Restaurants, the parent company of the 5th Avenue store, company spokeswoman Jen Rosenberg said.
Dawn Rowan, a spokeswoman for Riese, said company lawyers had not reviewed the court papers and did not want to comment.
