Planning Commissioners postponed discussing a long-running dispute between the city and the owner of the Jabberwocky Java cafe this week and set a new hearing for Feb. 1. That hearing will come just a few weeks before the issue goes to court Feb. 22. The city filed suit against the cafe last year, saying that the outdoor seating area was a public nuisance.
City planners had asked for the postponement because the cafe’s owner had failed to complete an application to amend his operating permit. Lance LeCompte, who opened the cafe on Los Alamitos Boulevard in 1996, countered that the city is delaying the matter because planners want him to put in extra parking and complete a noise study that he says is unnecessary.
