Santa Clara Puts Squeeze on La Canada, 77-42

With 11 consecutive Rio Hondo League championships, La Canada High is no pushover in boys’ basketball.
But it seems any opponent of No. 2-ranked Santa Clara has little chance of winning this season.
B.J. Ward scored 16 points, Nick Jones added 14 and Tim Scott had 12 for Santa Clara (15-1) in a 77-42 nonleague victory Tuesday night in Oxnard.
La Canada (6-10) went without a basket for more than nine minutes during the second and third quarters, and was outscored, 29-1, to fall behind, 53-22.
Santa Clara made 20 of 21 free throws.
La Canada played without second-leading scorer Dutch Turley, who suffered a broken neck in a snowboarding accident on Thursday. He sat on the bench and will have to wear a head stabilizer for 12 weeks but expects a full recovery.
