Boller Is Picked Best in State

Quarterback Kyle Boller of Hart High, who passed for a state single-season-record 4,841 yards, has been selected the state player of the year by Cal-Hi Sports magazine.
Making the all-state team were receiver Jerry Owens of Hart, tight end Mike Seidman of Westlake and defensive lineman Brian Montesanto of Royal.
Running back Marquis Brignac of Taft was a second-team selection.
Making the all-state underclass team were linemen Travis Johnson of Notre Dame, Patrick Norton of Hart, Steve Nevarez of San Fernando and Keith Holt of Westlake, quarterbacks Casey Clausen of Alemany and Matt Cassel of Chatsworth, running back Manuel White of Valencia, tight end Alex Holmes of Harvard-Westlake and kicker John Wall of Birmingham.
Second-team choices included quarterback Zac Wasserman of Westlake and lineman Ray Cassaday of Valencia.
On the all-state sophomore squad were running backs De’Andre Scott of Alemany and Michael Washington of Paraclete, quarterback John Sciarra of St. Francis and lineman Kaelen Jakes of Valencia.
SOCCER
Chrissy Sanford, an All-American from Ventura College, committed to Arizona, her father, Guy, said Wednesday.
Sanford, a Newbury Park High graduate, scored 40 goals in 22 games last season.
VOLLEYBALL
Former Westlake High middle blocker Erika Denison will transfer from Houston to UC Irvine at the end of the school year.
BASKETBALL
The Alemany-Notre Dame girls’ game scheduled for tonight at L.A. Baptist High has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Notre Dame.
