The Times Calls Area Honor Roll

The Grand Ballroom at the Warner Center Marriott was filled to capacity Saturday morning as The Times honored its All-Valley and All-Ventura County high school football players at a breakfast banquet and awards presentation.

Shawn Stuart, starting center for UCLA the last three seasons, was guest speaker. Stuart is no stranger to the ceremony. As a Saugus High senior in 1992, he was honored as The Times’ Valley Lineman of the Year.

Stuart, a two-time Academic All-American, encouraged the all-stars to work as hard in the classroom as they do on the football field. He also exhorted them not to be discouraged.

“Persistence beats talent every time,” he said.

The Times released its annual football honors in Wednesday, January 6th editions.
