McLeod Leads No. 2 Marina Over No. 5 San Clemente

Senior forward Chanda McLeod had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead second-ranked Marina to a 61-52 victory over fifth-ranked San Clemente in a nonleague girls’ basketball game Saturday night at San Clemente.

The Vikings bounced back from a Sunset League loss to Edison earlier in the week and held San Clemente standout Debby Caine scoreless in the first half en route to a 28-15 halftime lead.

Caine scored 15 second-half points but it was too little too late.

The Tritons (12-6) were hurt by the absence of senior forward Colleen Turnbull, who was suffering from the flu and didn’t play.
