11,584 Gun Sales Thwarted by FBI

The FBI blocked 11,584 gun sales during the first 41 days of its new computerized instant-check system, and took steps to catch 1,541 would-be buyers who were fugitives, the bureau said. Most of those rejected were felons. The barred sales represent a tiny fraction of the more than 1 million transactions on which the bureau did background checks. The Brady Act is intended to thwart gun sales to criminals or accused criminals, drug users, the mentally ill and those convicted of domestic violence, among others.
