A Game Matchup

No one understands the need for feminine, sports-inspired clothing more than Deborah Williams. The wife of NBA veteran Herb Williams, she’s attended hundreds of basketball games, and yet she never had anything to wear.

“Every day was a fashion balancing act for me before I conceived the Her Game 2 collection,” says Williams, who in 1997 founded a line of sporty clothes to fit and flatter the female body. “I couldn’t seem to find any women’s clothing that expressed my enthusiasm for sports and [that] was versatile enough for my life.”

The line includes novelty jerseys, jackets and pants, and also wrap skirts and tank dresses for day into evening. “Just because I’m into sports doesn’t mean I don’t want to be sexy.”

Most pieces are lightweight knit, nylon or polyurethane in bold tones with color-blocking and contrasting trim. “Almost everything I do stretches. It has to move with me to be comfortable.” Prices range from $20 to $100.

So what do the NBA players think of Her Game? “They love it. The guys want me to do oversized T-shirts so the wives don’t borrow theirs!”
