Thousand Oaks Pins Loss on Simi Valley

It was up to the heavyweights to decide a tight Marmonte League wrestling meet between Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley highs Thursday night at Simi Valley.
Chris Jansen’s pin of Kevin Francis 35 seconds into the second period lifted Thousand Oaks to a 36-30 victory in a matchup of the league’s top two teams.
Thousand Oaks (12-10, 2-0 in league meets), defending league champion, won eight of 14 bouts, including pins by Sean Wiederkehr at 140 pounds and Doug Hutton at 189.
Simi Valley (3-1, 3-1) pulled even, 30-30, when Jarrod Garnand pinned Chris Austin in 52 seconds at 215. Jon James (160) and Albert Carnahan (119) also had pins for the Pioneers.
Each team recorded an overtime victory. Braden Weinstock of Thousand Oaks edged Pablo Garcia, 3-2, in double-overtime at 125. At 130, T.J. McInturff of Simi Valley won a 4-2 overtime decision over David Mahler.
After a scoreless first period, Jansen made an escape and a takedown before recording the pin.
At 145, Wes Cobos, two-time defending league champion for Thousand Oaks, defeated John Lecky, 3-1, to improve to 24-1.
