Loyola Marymount 96, San Francisco 84--Willie Allen scored 24 points and Haywood Eaddy added 21 points, 10 assists and five steals to lead the Lions at Gersten Pavilion.
The win for the Lions (6-9, 1-2 in the WCC) is their fourth consecutive home win, matching their longest home streak since the 1991-92 season. The Lions took a 36-16 lead before the Dons (8-10, 0-3) rallied to cut Loyola Marymount’s lead to 44-39 at halftime.
The Lions scored nine points in a row early in the second half to stretch their lead to 55-40. The Dons got no closer than seven points the remainder of the game.
Loyola Marymount’s Elton Mashack had his fifth double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds and the Lions shot a season-high 59% from the field.
The Dons (8-9, 0-3) were led by Gerald Zimmerman, who scored a career-high 32 points. The 96 points were the most scored by the Lions since Feb. 10, 1995, when they beat Portland, 97-94, in double overtime.
Montana State 87, Cal State Northridge 82--Danny Sprinkle scored 22 points and John Lazosky added a career-high 21 to lead the Bobcats in a Big Sky Conference game at Bozeman, Mont.
Montana State (8-7, 2-2) ended a two-game losing streak and kept its home record perfect at 8-0.
The Bobcats led, 60-47, with 13:28 remaining on a basket by Mike Henry, but the Matadors (8-9, 1-4) responded with a 9-3 run to pull within 65-57 with 9:56 left.
Consecutive three-point baskets by Justin Brown and Sprinkle put the Bobcats ahead, 71-61, with 7:45 to play.
Sprinkle missed three consecutive three-point baskets as Northridge pulled within 71-66 on a layup by Jeffrey Parris with 6:05 left.
Derrick Higgins, who led Northridge with 19 points, pulled the Matadors within 78-75 on a dunk with 1:27 remaining.
Lazosky answered with a three-point basket with one second left on the shot clock to put Montana State ahead, 81-75, with 49 seconds to play.
Markus Carr made a short jump shot with 39 seconds left to make it 81-77, but Northridge was forced to foul and the Bobcats made four consecutive free throws and Sprinkle had a breakaway dunk with 10 seconds left to secure the victory.
Sprinkle and Lazosky combined for nine three-point baskets, with Lazosky making five of six from three-point range.
Greg Minor finished with 16 points for Northridge, followed by Parris with 10.
