*** Red Meat, “13,” Ranchero. It’s easy to see what made roots-rock flame-carrier Dave Alvin want to sign on as producer of this vintage-country band’s second album. These Midwestern transplants to the Bay Area write and sing stone honky-tonk music a la Buck Owens, with influences ranging as far and wide as Red Sovine and Johnny Cash to Kris Kristofferson and Roger Miller. Best of all, there’s not a whiff of artifice--just the joy of making classic-sounding country. The band plays Jacks Sugar Shack on Friday.
