The Police Department is seeking volunteers for its Domestic Violence Emergency Response Team. The team consists of volunteers and 10 police officers trained in the handling of domestic abuse incidents.
Volunteers ride with officers during the times when residents most frequently report domestic abuse incidents. The volunteers provide counseling or referrals at the site, then follow up with matters such as restraining orders or temporary housing. A counseling background is helpful but empathy is more important, department officials said. Information: (714) 992-1939.
