Palisades Elementary School will kick off “Authors’ Week” on Monday with guest storytellers, writing contests and a parade in which children will be dressed as their favorite storybook characters. Jayne Martin, principal of the Capistrano Beach school, is encouraging parents to participate by turning off their TVs for the week and spending more time reading and writing with their children at home. Several other schools in the district are also planning events to mark Authors’ Week. Parents should check with principals about plans at individual schools.
