* The Kimbell Art Museum presents “Matisse and Picasso: A Gentle Rivalry,” Jan. 31 through May 2. The exhibition includes 100 paintings, drawings and sculptures from collections around the world. The show, curated by art scholar and Harvard professor Yve-Alain Bois, juxtaposes work by each artist from the late 1920s through the 1950s, showing how they reacted to, were inspired by and sometimes parodied each other. 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth. * The Fort Worth Dallas Ballet presents “Paquita” and “Carmina Burana,” March 5 and 6, 8 p.m. “Paquita,” with music by Ludwig Minkus and choreography by Marius Petipa, is the tale of a Gypsy girl who falls in love with a military officer, and combines athletic dancing with razor-sharp precision. “Carmina Burana” is a multimedia piece with music by Carl Orff and choreography by Kent Stowell.
