The city recently completed a $160,000 fuel tank renovation at the corporation yard. Public Works Director Chris Becker said it was to comply with a federal requirement to either remove underground fuel tanks or bring them into compliance by installing monitoring systems. The mandate was issued as a precaution to keep drinking water safe from potential fuel leakage, Becker said.
The city removed one of the three underground fuel tanks at the yard and installed monitoring systems with sensors inside the remaining two tanks to regulate fuel levels and detect leakage.
