The Planning Commission voted 6 to 1 Wednesday to recommend to the City Council that it approve a master land-use plan and environmental report for 807 acres in the stadium area. Commissioner Paul Bostwick cast the dissenting vote on the plan, aimed at encouraging entertainment, office, retail, restaurant and hotel developments within the area. “I really feel we’re imposing something that’s going to force out small business owners,” he said.
But city officials said the proposal protects existing industrial and other property and business owners. Should landowners choose to develop their land to another use, the plan would streamline the process.
The area is bounded by the Santa Ana River on the east, the Santa Ana Freeway on the west, city limits on the south and a utility corridor on the north. It includes the city’s sports and entertainment hub--the Pond, Edison Field and Sportstown Anaheim, planned next to the stadium.
A master plan links the area to the nearby Anaheim resort, stimulates development, gives the area an identity and provides for public and private landscaping, officials said. The council is expected to consider the stadium plan in February or March.
