St. Mary’s 86, Loyola Marymount 81--Eric Schraeder scored 28 points to help the Gaels (9-12, 2-4) hold off the Lions (8-10, 3-3) in a WCC game at Moraga, Calif.
Schraeder, the conference’s leading scorer, fell two points short of tying a career high.
Frank Allocco made five three-point baskets and scored a career-high 22 points for St. Mary’s, which ended a three-game losing streak while stopping Loyola’s three-game winning streak.
Haywood Eaddy led Loyola with 20 points. It was the first time in his career that he’s had four consecutive 20-point games.
Tim Kennedy had 18 points for Loyola, while Elton Mashack had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Loyola went on a 13-2 run spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second, taking the lead for the first time with 18:01 to play.
The Gaels then seemingly broke the game open with a 17-2 spurt to go up 69-57 on three three-point baskets by Schraeder.
But St. Mary’s, in foul trouble with more than seven minutes left, allowed the Lions to cut the lead to 74-70 with 4:08 to play.
