Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 73, UC Irvine 71--Mike Wozniak scored on a layup with five seconds left to lift the Mustangs (3-4, 8-10) at San Luis Obispo.
The scored was tied, 71-71, when Irvine’s Jerry Green missed a three-point shot with 12 seconds left. The Mustangs’ Jabbar Washington grabbed the rebound and found Wozniak (15 points) down the right side.
Irvine had one last chance. Zamiro Bennem attempted a half-court shot that center Matt Willard grabbed under the basket with one second left. But Willard’s reverse layup grazed the front of the rim.
It was the sixth consecutive loss for the Anteaters (1-6, 5-12) and left them in last place in the Big West Conference’s Western Division.
Jeremiah Mayes had 16 points and 13 rebounds for San Luis Obispo.
Irvine made only five of its first 18 shots--and Marek Ondera, hampered by a sprained right ankle had four of the field goals. The Anteaters shot 33% in the first half and trailed, 42-34.
