Navy Radar Safety Concerns

* Re “Time for Straight Answers,” Jan. 24.
Congratulations on the your editorial regarding testing the Navy’s radars on the facility near Silver Strand. I thought it was a well-balanced article and expressed the issue objectively.
Having been in the Navy for 28 years and having worked in both the ocean-going and land-based segments of weapons engineering, I personally have some confidence that the Navy is not endangering its neighbors. However, a resurrection of (or new) studies would help dispel neighbors’ concern.
For Capt. J.W. “Stretch” Phillips: Ahead standard and rudder amidships! He’s going in the right direction.

We especially appreciate your support for a citizen observer, an element we believe vital for public acceptance of this process.
We are very pleased The Times has taken a position on this issue of importance to all who use and enjoy Ventura County coastal resources.
