NORTH HILLS — One man was killed and another wounded early Thursday when gunfire erupted in front of an apartment complex, Los Angeles police said.
Daniel Vilchez, 17, of Panorama City was pronounced dead after being shot in the 9000 block of Burnett Avenue in North Hills, said LAPD Det. Mike Oppelt.
Another man, 23-year-old Otto Vega, also of Panorama City, survived the shooting and was taken to a hospital. Police would not release any other details about his injuries and his condition was unavailable.
“We don’t have a whole lot to go on about what led up to this double shooting,” Oppelt said. “It appears this was either drug-related or connected to robbery.”
Neighbors heard gunshots about 4 a.m. and phoned 911. Police also received reports of two men running away after the shooting.
