Historic Railroad

I was pleased to read that money has been found to restore the historic Northwestern Pacific railroad (June 24). We should know that it is so easy to abandon what we had and so expensive to replace what was there. Those of us who remember the Pacific Electric understand this.
The rebuilding of this railroad gives new energy to the reviving of the economy of northwest California. It not only opens the northwest to freight service, but affords the restoring of the excursion trains that once traveled its tracks. California’s northwest region is a vacation wonderland. The Northwestern Pacific railroad offers a way to experience scenery in a way not available on Highway 101.
