The City Council voted 4 to 0 Tuesday to reappoint Doug Davert and Tony Kawashima to the Planning Commission; Councilman Thomas Saltarelli was absent from the meeting. Additionally, following a runoff vote, Cheryl Bell was appointed to her first term on the commission. A longtime applicant, Bell received votes from Mayor Tracy Wills Worley and Councilman Jeffery M. Thomas in the runoff.
There was some confusion in the runoff, however, because Councilman Mike Doyle cast his vote for applicant Mark Denny, who did not receive any of the pre-runoff votes. Bell, incumbent Scott Browne, and applicants Thomas Lofaro and Ken Morrison received nods in the first vote, making them eligible for the runoff. The fourth vote in the runoff was cast by Councilman Jim Potts for Morrison. On Wednesday, City Clerk Valerie Crabill said the vote would be upheld despite the confusion.
