The 29th annual Nosotros Golden Eagle Awards honoring Latinos in film, television and the theatrical arts will be held July 30 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Among those to be feted at this year’s black-tie dinner are singer Jose Feliciano, actor Eddie Albert, television journalist Maria Elena Salinas and the National Council of La Raza, the nation’s largest constituency-based Latino civil rights group.
The ceremony will also make the unveiling of the Ricardo Montalban-Nosotros Performing Arts Project, an ambitious $8-million endeavor that includes the acquisition of a major Hollywood theater that will be developed into a state-accredited school to train young Latino entertainers.
Nosotros was founded in 1970 by Montalban and other actors concerned about the kind of stereotypical roles being offered Latino actors in Hollywood. The group has since become an important advocate for Latino entertainers and the community they serve.
