A Northridge couple face criminal slum charges after failing to comply with repeated orders to remedy alleged code violations at a Reseda apartment building.
Camillo Mazzeo, 46, and his wife, Liana Volpe, 47, were charged Thursday with 20 violations of various fire, health, building and safety codes at their 20-unit, two-story stucco house at 7820 Baird Ave.
If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of six months in county jail and a $1,000 fine for each of the 20 counts, said Deputy City Atty. Rubin Harsoyo of the housing enforcement unit.
The couple are to be arraigned Aug. 5 in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
The misdemeanor charges stem from Slum Housing Task Force inspections conducted between April and June.
The violations range from no heat and a missing stairway railing to cockroach infestation, broken doors and windows, leaking faucets and damaged walls, Harsoyo said.
“It’s not the worse that our unit has ever handled, but some of the counts are very serious,” he said.
