The South Region Council of Orange County’s United Way has given Mission Viejo its City Challenge Award. City employees had 57.2% participation in the program this year, officials said. The average employee gift was $298.98--a 65% increase over last year. The contribution from 59 employees was $17,640. The United Way is a nonprofit organization that uses donations to fund many charitable groups in the county.
