A 10-year-old Huntington Beach boy was severely injured Friday morning after the bike he was riding collided head-on with a car on a residential street near his home, police said.
The boy, whom police did not identify, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was reported in critical condition with severe head injuries. He also had a compound fracture of his right leg, said Huntington Beach Police Lt. Luis Ochoa.
The boy was wearing a helmet as he rode his BMX bicycle on the wrong side of Litchfield Drive shortly before 11:30 a.m., Ochoa said. The boy’s bike collided with an oncoming 1992 Lexus sedan, and his helmet flew off on impact, Ochoa said.
The driver, Arthur Berkowitz, 57, of Fountain Valley was not cited, Ochoa said.
