A 17-year-old boy was shot to death Saturday night in Santa Ana after a confrontation with gang members in a van who asked where he and his companion were from, police said.
When Daniel Perez and his friend answered that they weren’t members of any gang, someone inside the van fired several shots, police said. Perez was hit in the chest and died instantly, said police Sgt. Randy Eldridge.
The friend escaped unharmed and ran for help.
The shooting took place just before 8:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Hazard Street.
