The Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch and Gardens needs volunteers and horticulturists to help with a variety of programs. The Long Beach-based group is planning a series of free family programs about the history of California that are meant to educate and entertain. Most will be held on Sunday afternoons, organizers said. Project teams also are needed on Thursdays and Sundays to work on the Rancho’s extensive gardens. The Rancho is in the Bixby Hill Estates at 6400 Bixby Hill Drive. The estate is near Palo Verde Avenue and Anaheim Road. Information: (562) 431-3541.
