CAMARILLO — An 84-year-old Camarillo woman suffered broken legs and a broken arm when she was struck by a Jeep while walking home from a grocery store Friday, officials reported.
Ruth Mathisen also suffered internal injuries in the incident, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at Arneill Road and Ponderosa Drive, according to Ventura County Fire Capt. Tom Law.
“A bystander who witnessed it said she was in the crosswalk when it happened,” Law said. “She was found 25 feet from the crosswalk, so she was either thrown or dragged.”
Mathisen was in critical condition at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where she was in surgery Friday night, a nursing supervisor said.
The driver of the Jeep, who deputies would not identify, was not injured and had not been cited as of Friday night.
The investigation is continuing, and deputies are asking witnesses to call 388-5122.
