* Re “Mother of 3 Sentenced for Sex With Minor,” Feb. 27:
There exists a double standard in our local legal system that is shameful.
Why did the district attorney’s office allow a guilty plea, which provides for a mere 89-day sentence, just because the suspect was a woman and the victim a male?
Had the roles been reversed, a 35-year-old male school coach and a 13-year-old female student, the suspect would be off to prison. Does a male coach-suspect suffer any less a “fall from grace” when caught in a similar situation?
And shame on the judge, Gregory H. Lewis, for participating in this double standard.
Is this the direction our new district attorney is taking his office? Let’s hope not.

* Regarding your Feb. 27 story, “Girl Is Safe After Internet-Inspired Trip to Vancouver,” thankfully this is a happy ending to what could have been another horror story.
As a bald man, who was once 35 years old, I thought the comment of Trina Nettles, a case assistant in Tustin with National Missing and Exploited Children, of the profile of a sex offender was ironic since another story on the Metro section front page that day concerned the conviction of a mother of three for sexual offenses against a minor.
