Five years ago, Ocean View School District offered no formal music education, but that’s not true today. Music programs are an integral part of the curriculum at the district’s four middle schools, thanks in large part to Marine View music teacher Lynn Silver. Silver, a 23-year teacher, decided to start a music program. Two years later, the school board approved expansion of the program to all four middle schools. The district spent about $500,000 on instruments and large, portable classrooms specially designed for music and performing arts for each middle school campus, Silver said.
