In an effort to get more swallows to nest at Mission San Juan Capistrano during the Return of the Swallows celebration Saturday, Mission officials are releasing thousands of ladybugs--the birds’ favorite food--and making mud, which the small migratory birds use to make their nests. The ruins of the Mission’s Great Stone Church was home to thousands of the birds, but when the structure was placed in scaffolds for safety reasons in 1989, most of the nests were destroyed, officials said.
