Think you’ve been discriminated against when trying to rent or buy a home? For 40 years, the Fair Housing Council of the San Fernando Valley has been investigating housing discrimination complaints and educating the public about fair housing.
The private, nonprofit organization--one of the oldest fair housing councils in the nation--also provides federal and state fair housing law information to real estate agents, management companies, lenders and tenants. In addition, the organization gives referrals for landlord and tenant disputes not involving discrimination.
Among the resources offered at council headquarters are free sample letters on housing issues and a $2 booklet titled “California Tenant” that outlines state civil codes on landlord and tenant laws.
The Fair Housing Council of the San Fernando Valley also serves the cities of Burbank, Santa Clarita, Palmdale and Simi Valley, plus other portions of Los Angeles County. Located at 8124 Van Nuys Blvd., Suite 206, in Panorama City, the council can be reached at (818) 373-1185 or (800) 287-4617. More information is available at https://www.fairhousing.com on the Internet.
