UC Admissions

In “2-Track Admission Is the Wrong Track” (Commentary, Feb. 28), Sally Pipes states, “Under such a plan [UC admission to top 4% of each school], students will benefit from going to low-performing schools.”
This makes the assumption that now students may choose which schools they wish to attend. The last time I checked, a Compton student whose single parent has been thrown off the welfare rolls was not free to attend a Beverly Hills school. I don’t argue that the plan is flawed, but it’s an attempt to try and make opportunity more equitable.
