Golden West Rolls Past Riverside in Baseball

Golden West broke open a tie game with a six-run fifth inning and went on to defeat Riverside, 11-5, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday.
Bobby Mayorga led off the fifth inning with a single, and Luis Santos followed with his second home run of the season to give the Rustlers a 3-1 lead.
Reuben Gulledge had three hits to lead Golden West (12-8, 2-4), including his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth. Santos and Joe Yagher were both two for four. The other six Rustler starters had one hit each.
In other Orange Empire Conference games:
Cypress 8, Santa Ana 3--Sophomore right hander Ron Corona gave up one earned run and 11 strikeouts for the Chargers. Adam Spiker went two for four with three RBIs and two runs scored. Spiker had a home run in the fourth inning.
The win gave Coach Scott Pickler and his brother, Cypress softball Coach Brad, a combined total of 1,000 victories. Scott has a record of 458-218; Brad is 542-162.
Orange Coast 4, Fullerton 3--Orange Coast’s Chris Law singled in the 10th inning, scoring Matt Pope. Fullerton’s Eddie Romprey hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to tie the score. Ricky Bostick retired the Hornets in order in the 10th inning to pick up his fourth victory.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:
Orange Coast 5, Fullerton 4--Camelia Jaeger and Denise Poirel teamed for a 6-1, 7-6, victory and Orange Coast (6-4, 5-1) received a point by default at No. 3 doubles to win. The Pirates also earned a point by default at No. 6 singles.
