Brea Olinda 69, Fresno Edison 65--Reserves Jill Trader and Jerri Armendariz helped the Ladycats (31-3) advance to a record eighth state championship game with their performance in the Division II regional final at the Pyramid.
Trader, a 5-11 junior forward, stood in for injured Chelsea Trotter. Though Trotter averaged 21 points and 11.5 rebounds, Trader had a Trotter-like performance, a game-high 17 points and team-high seven rebounds.
Armendariz, a 5-3 senior guard, missed last year’s regional final, a 64-52 victory over Edison, because she loaned her jersey to Trotter, who brought the wrong one. But Armendariz was invaluable, scoring 14 points and handing out three assists.
Brea will play Pleasanton Amador Valley, a 63-41 winner over Cupertino Homestead, in the state final on Friday.
North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 72, Fullerton Rosary 50--Omelogo Udeze, a 6-2 senior forward, scored 23 points and had 17 rebounds--nine offensive--to lead Harvard-Westlake in the Division III final at the Pyramid.
Rolake Bamgbose, a 6-2 junior, scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds, seven on the offensive end.
Harvard-Westlake (28-5) will play in the state final Saturday against Lafayette Acalanes, a 37-22 winner over Loomis Del Oro.
Rosary (24-9) fell behind early and never mounted a serious challenge.
