Police ‘Stop, Frisk’ Practice to Be Probed

From Times Wire Reports

The state attorney general announced a civil rights inquiry into the practices of the New York City Police Department, which has come under intense scrutiny since the shooting of West African-born street peddler Amadou Diallo last month. Atty. Gen. Eliot Spitzer said he plans to focus on the “stop-and-frisk” practices by police in minority neighborhoods. More than 27,000 people were frisked by the city’s special street crimes unit last year, yet fewer than 5,000 of them were arrested, it was reported.
